The great debate – is it ok to photoshop images?
“for my part, whether I am viewing an idyllic landscape or a motorway collision, I tend to overlook the actual charcteristics of the scene and look instead for form and texture which are the essence of a dramatic new image. The camera may thus become a filter between it’s operator and reality.“

I shot this series with Felicia in my kitchen. The back drop is a painted canvas.
I placed a studio strobe low to the floor behind the model, then applied a blue gel to the reflector.
Next I set off a smoke machine to give some blur and atmosphere to the set.
Her face and body were lit with a fill flash through a large Bowens box diffuser.
I really liked the result but thought it would look even better with a little photoshop magic to create an HDR effect using a Topaz Labs plugin, then removing some of the grain with Neat Image.
Been chatting to Summer for ages via Myspace. Finally today we got to shoot together.

“I was inexperienced and just starting out when I first shot with Mark. I was so nervous, but right from the start he was brilliant at relaxing me and giving me guidance, which is what you need at first. We got so many good shots that day and working with Mark became a regular occurance for me. He used to say I was his little muse! Mark is a very talented photographer and definitely has his own style and range. We did loads of themes, from really gothicy, blood weeping warrior princesses through to soft artistic nudes. I love all my piccies from working with him but I must admit to having a few all time faves, these include – ‘Au Naturel’, ‘bloody weep’, ’shibari by candlelight’, ‘medusa’, ‘rage against society,’(or warrior princess), ’snake charmer’ (belly dance pic), ‘pink ribbons’ and ‘bloody weep’ which won an ultra vixens issue back in april 2008. “When I first got interested in alternative modelling I remember looking at Marks’ work and hoping that one day I could work with him! To my surprised I was asked to take part in a group shoot where Mark was one of the photographers a few months later…. I remember being so excited yet nervous about meeting him as I only had 1 shoot under my belt and was really scared not to be good enough!
Mark was so friendly and patient giving me directions without being patronising that I soon felt a lot less stressed! It was a large group shoot so I didn’t get to work with Mark much on a 1 to 1 base on this particular day!
A few weeks later Betty Rose another alternative model asked me if I wanted to take part in a shoot with Mark at his house and without any hesitation I said yes! I was so pleased that I was going to have the occasion to do a proper shoot with Mark, but still a bit nervous as this time it was going to be just Betty, me and Mark! To my surprise it didn’t take me long to feel at ease….
I was amazed at all the ideas that Mark kept coming up with and very pleased with the end result!
I have since worked with Mark numerous times and I am amazed at his ability to come up with something new and yet so good every single time!
Mark is very friendly and relaxed yet profesionnal, he will never asked you to do anything you don’t want to and he always makes sure that you are 100% happy and confortable no matter what the shoot involves! (in my case…. ropes, pig rib cage, bandages, fake blood, cuttelry, unusual daring angles….)
