I came across Mark when performing as a living marionette at Club Antichrist. He’d had a model cancel on him because on Thursday 8th May 2008, parliament passed the act regarding possession of violent and or pornographic imagery; and it was purely because I felt so strongly about the artistic right to free expression that I contacted Mark and embarked on my first alternative photoshoot.
Mark has a strong work ethic. Time and time again, his down-to-earth attitude exemplifies his professionalism.. it was his eye for detail that impressed me so much. Rather than take pictures of naked chics in strange situations with fancy props, he was much more concerned in the juxtaposition, construction and ability of the images we created. The man can make something out of nothing, and I respect his ability to take the unusual/ unconventional and exaggerate the ‘funny’, or not-ordinary, aspect of the subject within the composition of the image. I spent four hours covered in white paint, tied as a marionette to a ceiling hook pulley and covered in red-coloured maple syrup and toilet paper to create raw, beautiful images. Even now when I look back I wonder how he was able to bring to the forefront of the image something within me that I was never truly able to express beforehand.
He made me feel very much at ease and was wonderful to work with – he was happy to give me some direction when pursuing his visual, but he gave me enough scope to play around with my own ideas too. He also takes his art seriously enough to challenge his models; you wont find Mark asking you to be a clothes, props or skin horse. His portfolio boasts some fantastic work; from full nues, fetish and portrait to the sensual. I feel very lucky to have worked with Mark and look forward to working with him at some point in the future when time allows.
