The great debate – is it ok to photoshop images?
“for my part, whether I am viewing an idyllic landscape or a motorway collision, I tend to overlook the actual charcteristics of the scene and look instead for form and texture which are the essence of a dramatic new image. The camera may thus become a filter between it’s operator and reality.“

I shot this series with Felicia in my kitchen. The back drop is a painted canvas.
I placed a studio strobe low to the floor behind the model, then applied a blue gel to the reflector.
Next I set off a smoke machine to give some blur and atmosphere to the set.
Her face and body were lit with a fill flash through a large Bowens box diffuser.
I really liked the result but thought it would look even better with a little photoshop magic to create an HDR effect using a Topaz Labs plugin, then removing some of the grain with Neat Image.

Some people make life worth living. It is no secret that I have been going through a low these last few weeks… Health problems, Website problems, model problems…. But C-J & Kate came to visit at the weekend and made me feel so good about my work again…
Couple of hours shoot in the Nags Head – A few beers with Karl, then meet up at the Hobgoblin to put the world right over a pint or two of Rev James beer! — Gary from First Studios joined us for a brilliant night of fun, chat and soul searching…

Below is a copy of the blog I posted on Deviant Art.
For the time being at least I have decided to hang up my camera. Will still honour any previously booked shoots but will not be accepting any new requests until further notice.
I do feel I owe my loyal supporters just a little explanation.
Your encouragement and critique, banter and witty remarks over the last 3 years have inspired me to push my limits and create pieces of work worthy of being called art.
My decision to call it a day on photography is nothing to do with comments, abuse or smutty remarks I do occasionally receive here on Deviant Art.
It’s more down to an accumulation of events and situations which have really pissed me off.
Photography is nothing more than my hobby – I dont get paid for doing it, nor do I hardly ever charge for MY time. I always said when I stopped enjoying doing it then it was time to quit and move on. That time has come.
I will not name names, but several models I have worked with have caused me in one way or another to remove or delete pieces of my art. One even claimed “Copyright Violation” on my first book and got it removed from the web! Can you believe that!!!
If it was just one model I wouldn’t care – but it seems nearly every shoot I do now comes attached with “unwanted baggage” which I have to sort out – I’m fed up with doing that.
On the rare occasion I have asked for anything back from a model I assisted in the past, my request was denied. (ie I wanted to use some of the shots on another website for my personal portfolio)
The many, many wasted days I have sat waiting for the model to turn up -and they just dont show…
No emails, no text, no phone call – just cant be bothered to get in touch…. is my time really that worthless to others?
I could bore you with all the other problems with websites, magazines, models, boyfriends, event organizers etc etc but its not worth it…
So there you go …. I will pop back in here every now and again -and I will still try to get my new book released, but it’s very unlikely I will be submitting any more art for quite a while.

I love shooting couples .. you get so much real emotion when two people are obviously so much in love.
Still looking for more “couples” to work with in 2010 – get in touch!

Is it jealousy? -I really don’t know…
But you try to help some people and all they do is shit on you…
As long as I have the energy to click the shutter button I will continue to take provocative, thought provoking, sensual or in your face shots
…sorry, I am really NOT in a good mood tonight! – ps it’s nothing to do with the awesome model in the photo below

I get many questions asked by new models what is TFP? Why do I have to sign a release form, or what do you mean by “Implied Nude”?
So I thought the simplest way to explain it all is to write a blog…
TFP or TFCD is simply a method which allows both the model and photographer to shoot images for their portfolios without exchanging money either way. Click here to read more
Model Release forms are a legal contract that the model signs as an agreement that the model has no objections to the images of the model being used by the photographer. This is not the same as ownership or copyright! click here to read more
Nude Modelling Terms
- Implied Nude: means I will not take all my clothes off , perhaps just wear knickers or pasties, but I will allow you to take pictures of me which don’t show any clothing, implying that I am not wearing any.
- Hidden or Covered Nude: I will allow you to take pictures of me not wearing any actual clothing, but with some sort of opaque drape or prop covering a given area such as nipples or my naughty bits.
- Sheer: I will allow you to take pictures in which my private areas are to some extent t visible through a transluscent material or mesh top etc.
- Semi-nude/Topless: I will allow you to take pictures of me in which my breasts and/or possibly my behind are visible.
- Artistic Nude: I will allow you to take pictures of me while I am not wearing any clothes if they are interestingly framed, strangely posed, or just show partial body parts.
- Erotic/Fetish nude: I will assume provocative poses and allow you to take pictures of me which draw particular attention to my naughty bits while I am not wearing any clothes but may be in masks, latex or bondage.
- Adult nude: I will assume sexually explicit poses and allow you to take pictures of me engaging, or suggesting that I am about to engage in sexual acts while I am not wearing any clothes. See further explanation below…
Adult Nude Modeling terms frequently used:
- UK mag: Fully naked including open leg poses.
- US mag: As UK mag but includes exposed genitalia.

TFP (time for prints).
TFP is a two way deal wherein the model donates time and the photographer donates prints of the work.
No money is usually exchanged either way.
As a model it is best not to advertise the fact that you are looking to do TFP work because you will find yourself swamped with hundreds of emails – some genuine, most not.
However, I do occasionally offer a TFP collaboration, so if you are interested just ask – I just might say yes!!
Remember you must sign my model release even if its for TFP.
However, I usually offer TFCD (Time for CD), you will get a CD with all digital images taken on the day – or a weblink where you can download the images. These will NOT be in high res, but plenty adequate for web use.
